M O I R A

Moira is the ancient Greek goddess of fate, who wields over life and death of both humans and gods. She appeared in three guises. Klotho, the spinner, develops the thread of life with her spinning wheel. Lachesis coils or holds the spun thread - it is the goddess who allocates and determines fate. Atropos inevitably cuts the thread of life. The three Moirs symbolize a musical and visual triptych for which HERMESensemble and Catalina Vicens provide the music and Kurt D'Haeseleer creates an original video. The audience experiences the unique total experience of an audiovisual concert. Catalina Vicens improvises on medieval organetto, drawing on the many recent materials written for her by numerous contemporary composers. She enters into dialogue with members of HERMESensemble, framed by atmospheric video and moving electronics. HERMESensemble performs the peerless ensemble work [incipits] by Ghent composer Daan Janssens, as well as improvisationally reverting to polyphonic fragments by Orlandus Lassus. Video artist Kurt D'Haeseleer constructs a three-part tapestry, taking a journey back in time from Artificial Intelligence, across the Industrial Revolution to the Renaissance.
